Bob Polvi rose to a senior executive position as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bechtel Group, Inc. (1984-92), and President of the Bechtel Civil Company (1986-91) one of the world's largest civil engineering design and construction firms. His pumped storage project in Ludington, Michigan, was selected the Most Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement in 1973 by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
He has been President of the US Commission on Large Dams and a member of both the Beavers (surface engineering) and Moles (tunnel engineering) professional organizations. While continuing to serve as a senior consultant since his retirement from Bechtel in 1993, Mr. Polvi serves the College of Engineering on its Advisory Board and enjoys entrepreneurial activities through Polvi Farms, near Salem.
